All She Left Were Her Cookbooks, by Christine Fincke, is a 55-word story about a breakup.
And like all partings, it's cruel and harrowing.
But the irony, humour, and ultimately optimism it conveys lends hope and meaning to the future.
ALL SHE LEFT WERE HER COOKBOOKS by Christine Fincke
Break two hearts, carefully separating centers; add wine sparingly. Adjust psyche; froth. Melt inhibitions; bake on high uncovered on sheet. Dot with climatic release of wonder.
Add sweetners, exotic praises, hope, and leftover emotions. Sprinkle remaining broken hearts on top, followed by a splash of bitters.
Toss most discretion out and begin again.
